Women's World Cup: India Beat Australia To Set Up Final Date With England

Women's World Cup 2017 Updates

Cricket is a team game but today it was all about this lady in blue-HARMANPREET KAUR. It was Kaur storm and not Gayle storm with a few shots from AB’s dictionary. After quick and disappointing dismissals of Smriti and Punam it was Kaur and her show.  She went on to register her career best score of 171 in just 115 balls which included 20 fours and 7 huge sixes.

Everything went Kaur's way today which shattered and ended the dream of the Aussies to make it to the finals. When a lady just filled an entire stadium with her insane hitting showing no mercy towards the bowlers and then reaching heights in the 36th over where she went on to hit two fours and two sixes in four balls. The helplessness of the Australian ladies was written on their faces after they watched one ball after the other sail on to the boundary rope.

In a pressure game like this and that too when the team lost two quick wickets it was Kaur who took the responsibility of helping India score a mammoth 281 in just 42 overs. What if it didn’t pour down? Well just saying!

Dismissals of Nicole,Beth and Meg within the first ten overs made it even worse for the Aussies and chasing 281 nearly seemed impossible. Even though Villani turned the tide their way,  281 was just beyond their reach. India inched a little closer to victory after dismissals of Perry and Villani. Needing 145 in 95 balls with only five wickets in hand, Indian women were almost sure to get through the semis. With the run rate shooting up after every over and wickets falling in a heap the Australians failed to battle it out. The “I won’t give up” spirit of Blackwell(90 of 56) is something worth mentioning. If only were a couple of wickets in their hands, the outcome could have been different. But India sealed the deal eventually of meeting England in the grand finale in the mecca of cricket, "The Lords", knocking out six time World Champions. Undoubtedly the player of the match being Kaur for her exceptional innings.

India have made their second World Cup final, the last one being in 2005. The tournament began with an India v/s England game, it will end the same way. India have beaten England, New Zealand and Australia in this tournament and proved their dominance throughout.

So it is India vs England-a cracker of a game for sure. But the big question being - Can Mithali and Goswami playing their fifth world cup(probably their last)  lift the cup? Can they replicate what Kapil dev had done in 1983 at Lord’s?. Sunday's Lord's will answer the question.
