Athletics - Sports Ministry to Fund 28 Indian Athletes for World Athletics Championships in Budapest
In a significant move, the Sports Ministry has announced its decision to finance the participation of 28 Indian athletes at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, scheduled to take place from August 19. This funding will not only cover the training expenses but also encompass boarding and lodging costs, airfare, visa fees, as well as Out of Pocket Allowance (OPA), among other necessary expenditures. The Ministry aims to ensure that the Indian contingent receives all the necessary support to perform at their best on the international platform.
The contingent, consisting of a total of 42
individuals, including coaches and support staff, is set to compete against
some of the finest athletes from around the globe, as the World Championships
draw renowned competitors from various countries. Over the years, the
championship has garnered immense attention and serves as a platform for
athletes to showcase their skills and strive for excellence in their respective
events.
India's performance in the previous edition
of the World Athletics Championships held in 2022 was commendable, with 6

athletes belong to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), representing the
cream of Indian athletics. Additionally, 15 athletes will be making their debut
at the World Championships this year, auguring well for the future of Indian
athletics.
Adding to the excitement is the inclusion
of Shaili Singh, the youngest member of the contingent at only 19 years old.
