PARUPALLI KASHYAP STUNS TOP SEED LEE HYUN

Parupalli Kashyap was the star attraction of the day at $120,000 Yonex US Open, causing an upset, stunning the top seed and defending champion Lee Hyun II of Korea in the first round of this Grand Prix Gold event. Coming back from shoulder injury, Kashyap edged past the korean in a 3 set encounter 21-16, 10-21, 21-19. Prior to this, kashyap was trailing head-to-head 2-3 against 15th ranked Lee Hyun.

In other Men's Singles of the day, 2nd seed H S Prannoy reached the second round defeating Austria’s Luka Wraber 21-12 21-16.
5th seed Sameer Verma, who is also on a comeback mode, played a positive game and defeated Vietnam’s Hoang Nam Nguyen 21-5 21-10. Harsheel Dani was the other india who moved to the next round. 




WOMEN'S SINGLES

In Women’s Singles, Rituparna Das dominated Canada’s Rachel Honderich 21-6 21-8 and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli also got better of USA’s Maya Chen 21-13 21-16.

Other Indian Men's and Women's Singles players Lakhanee Sarang, Abhishek Yelegar, Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka, Reshma Karthik and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde couldn't make it to the next round.



MEN'S DOUBLES & WOMEN'S DOUBLES

In men’s doubles, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy got past Canada’s Jason Anthony Ho-hue and Nyl Yakura 21-5 21-9. However, 4th seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had a disappointing defeat as they suffered a 21-8 19-21 19-21 loss to Kohei Gondo and Tatsuya Watanabe of Japan.



Women’s doubles pair of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram defeated Japan’s Rira Kawashima and Saori Ozaki 21-6 14-1 21-4, while Manu and Maneesha beat Canadian combo of Nyl Yakura and Brittney Tam 21-3 21-5 in mixed doubles competition.



Another disappointing story of the day was exit of 3rd seed Mixed Doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy, who lost 21-9 19-1 17-1 to English pair of Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh in mixed doubles.
