Huge Achievement by Neeraj Chopra Before Asian Athletics Championship




Neeraj Chopra Finished a creditable 5th in the Paris Diamond League.



Best throw of 84.67 m in his third attempt.




He started off with a throw of  79.54 and then improving to 81.32 in his  second.



Neeraj failed to cross the 80 m mark in his remaining three attempts and had to settle for fifth spot which is  a great position considering this his is first Diamond league appearance.



Germany’s Johannes Vetter took gold with a throw of 88.74. Jakub Vadlejch (CZE) finished second with a throw of 88.02,while Olympic champion Thomas Rohler(GER) Had to Settle for a bronze with a throw of 87.23.



Neeraj Chopra  participated in the Paris diamond League ,this is his first major tournament in senior level after he broke through the ranks winning the U-20 world cup. Paris Diamond League has a very strong field this time that is being lead by the incredible Thomas Roehler who has a Season best throw of 93.90 m as compared to 85.63 m of Chopra, who faces a very tough task to even finish in top 5 in this field even though his season best throw places him 5th on the list.

This will be the tournament that Neeraj will be without his coach Garry Calvert who guided him to his juniors title as he quit and joined the Chinese team as their coach, and will be travelling with the national coach Radhakrishnan Nair for the meet.



“The training in the last few months has gone on expected lines. I have reached Paris, and am ready for Saturday’s competition. My focus is on giving my best”, said Neeraj. This tournament can be considered as a build up to the world athletics



championship that will be held later from 4th-13th august in London.Whatever be the outcome of this tournament, one thing is for sure that Chopra will get a taste for the big leagues and considering his age this tournament will surely set him for the future.
